It’s fascinating that scientists from time to time think the unthinkable. Here, this MIT group have actually merged mass-less photons of light together to get … well, a new form of light, one where the photons have mass and a slower speed. So, if gaining mass also slowed the photons down, as this paper says, to a speed 100,000 times slower than the speed of light light, does that mean I can blink really fast for a bit of time in front of a mirror using their heavy light and have the chance to see a reflection of myself showing my eyes closed? Joking aside, the prospects for quantum computing in the future, perhaps some distance away, might be considerable.
